EDUCATION
DESCRIPTION:
Studies have proven that providing education is one of the best strategies for breaking the hold of poverty. With average family annual income less than $1 per day in many areas, less than one half of the children attend elementary school and only 10% attend secondary school.
FOCUS:
Knowing that education can help to eliminate poverty, ICA is dedicated to providing all children of all abilities with a proper education.
UPDATE:
ICA has already built one school in the village of Lewoh and has committed to the construction of a new school in four other villages. ICA continues to provide on-going support for various village schools with supplies of all kinds. In Besali, a bridge must be built across a river that cuts through the village and drowns many children every year who must cross the river (waist high on adults) twice a day to attend school. A feasibility survey is currently being done.
