WATER TRANSPORTATION
DESCRIPTION:
In developing world countries, it is estimated that up to 80% of all illness is caused by water-borne diseases, responsible for cholera, typhoid and dysentery, claiming roughly 400 lives every hour. Many villages in Africa have no access to water. The women or the young girls may have to hike for hours through harsh terrain to get water every single day.
FOCUS:
In 2003-4, ICA financed a project that supplied fresh water to a village of Lewoh. Village elders and Chiefs report that since the project's completion, water-related deaths and illnesses have been greatly reduced.
UPDATE:
Due to the seemingly infinite need to supply water for villages in Cameroon, ICA committed to providing systems for all villages in the Lebeliam region.
