WOMEN'S PIG PROJECT
DESCRIPTION:
It has become widely accepted that one of the most effective ways to enable development is by empowering the women. The six villages chosen are extremely isolated and these are the first development projects ever introduced.
FOCUS:
ICA has established a program to provide eligible women with their first pig and a 6-month supply of feed. The recipient woman must build a pen for keeping her pig and must sign a contract to give 2 pigs from her first faro to other needy women in her region, thereby extending the program.
UPDATE:
This program of engaging and empowering the women in the villages has proven to be tremendously successful and 45 pigs were donated to village women in February 2007. Funding is required for the purchase of pigs and feed.
